In order to set your child up for success, it may be beneficial to measure these areas to develop a comprehensive map of how they learn best. This process can sometimes be quite stressful for children and their families. Our goal is to make this experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Our office is informal and relaxed and our psychologist is warm and approachable.

A psychoeducational assessment looks at academic achievement, cognitive ability, adaptive skills, social-emotional difficulties, and other behaviours that may be impacting your child's ability to learn. A learning plan can then be developed based on your child's individual needs. Diagnoses attained through psychoeducational assessment may enable access to additional programs and supports to help your child achieve success.
Most psychoeducational assessments take 3 or 4 sessions and include an initial intake meeting with parents, individual testing with your child, and a final feedback meeting. You will be provided with a comprehensive report which you can then distribute to other professionals involved in your child's care. With your permission, our psychologist will happily consult with your child's school to help develop an individualized learning plan.
Dawn received a Bachelor of Arts Advanced Major degree in psychology from Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia. She then completed a Master of Science in Child Development at the University of London, England. She is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and has over 15 years of experience working in the field.
Dawn is experienced with assessment, diagnosis, and planning interventions for children and adolescents with a variety of difficulties including Intellectual Disabilities, Giftedness, Specific Learning Disorders, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), depression, and Anxiety Disorders.
